Disney's Polynesian Resort beach is a fun place to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks. (Kristin Ford/Orlando Sentinel) Walt Disney World’s fireworks shows might be designed to be seen inside the theme parks, but there are plenty of other places on Disney property where guests can enjoy them. My family has a tradition of having dinner at the Polynesian Resort on the Fourth of July and then walking down to the beach for the water pageant and fireworks, where the music is piped in. Though it is crowded, it is nothing like being wedged shoulder to shoulder inside the theme parks. The kids can run around and play, the adults can enjoy tropical drinks, and we beat all the traffic home — everyone leaves happy. The Magic Kingdom fireworks can be seen from many vantage points around Seven Seas Lagoon, including rooms, restaurants and beaches at the Grand Floridian, the Contemporary Resort, the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness campground. And, if your timing is perfect, you just might see the show from the monorails or resort boat launches. Be aware that at this late date, it will be difficult to get a dining reservation at any of these hotels. However, you can still eat at one of the counter-service restaurants and enjoy the fireworks. To do so, you’ll need to park at the Transportation & Ticket Center (cost: $14 per car) and take a monorail, ferry or bus to your destination. Parking at the hotels on July 4 is limited to guests who are staying there or who have a dining reservation, and it definitely is enforced. On Independence Day, “Celebrate America Fireworks” will be shown at 9 p.m. in the Magic Kingdom in place of the seasonal “Summer Nightastic! Fireworks Spectacular.” Want to share your favorite place to view the Magic Kingdom fireworks? Tell us about it in the comments.

Go ahead and crank the volume on Stroke 9’s “Tap Tap Domination” while you read this, because it could be a big win for Disney and mobile-gaming fans alike. According to multiple news sources on Thursday, the Walt Disney Co. bought Tapulous, maker of the hugely popular iPhone music game Tap Tap Revenge. Disney will initially focus on making games for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and other mobile platforms, said Steve Wadsworth, the president of Disney Interactive Media Group. Wadsworth was quoted by The Associated Press as calling the purchase “a strategic move, and it highlights the importance we put on mobile.” It also highlights the potential of being a big money-maker, too. Tapulous apps are played by 30 million users on Apple platforms. Games include Tap Tap Revenge, which features different musical acts, from Metallica to Lady Gaga and even a Disney talent familiar with legions of young Radio Disney fans – Justin Bieber. Tapulous also is the creator of the Riddim Ribbon game app, too. According to the AP, Tapulous Inc.’s staff will remain in Palo Alto, Calif., while Tapulous founder and CEO Bart Decrem and CIO Andrew Lacy will take over mobile-business roles at Disney. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Steven Ford, Orlando Sentinel
