America’s Great Paint-Out Brushes into the Forgotten Coast

One of my fondest memories of high school is of painting outside. When it was very early and the light was just right, my art teacher would load us students in the back of his pickup truck, giggling and talking and shuffling for a spot to sit. We’d drive to an old barn or a stretch of meadow and we’d all pile out of the truck. We’d set up under the pines or by a rock and let Ma Nature inspire us. It was fun, it seemed like an outrageous adventure, and it was unforgettably, unbelievably glorious. Which is maybe part of the reason why Florida's Forgotten Coast Plein Air Invitational, America's Great Paint-Out , sounds so wonderful to me.

Pink Rubber Boots Ladies Fishing Rodeo With Fishin’ Chix

With a motto that reads, “To inspire and fashionably attire adventuresome ‘reel’ women,” I am definitely intrigued by a unique company called Fishin’ Chix. Encouraging women of all ages to discover the exciting world of fishing, Fishin' Chix organizes fishing tournaments for ladies (and they offer a nice line of women’s fishing apparel, too). Their next event is the sixth annual Fishin’ Chix Pink Rubber Boots Ladies Fishing Rodeo on June 2, at Flounder’s Chowder House in Pensacola Beach . Festivities kick off with the Captain’s Meeting for entrants at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31, and the actual fishing begins at 6:30 a.m.

Climb to the Moon at Ponce Inlet Lighthouse

Wonder what it’s like to climb to the top of the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse? The lighthouse – Florida’s tallest – is strangely beautiful inside, with a spiral staircase that seems to go on forever. It twists smaller and tighter the higher you climb, and when you look down, it curls in an endless ribbon. Your voice echoes off the thick walls when you talk, and it feels mysterious and very old. And that’s just the tip of the sandbar. When you finally reach the top, with your backside and calves whining, and open the door, it literally takes your breath away.
